Hi and welcome to my teaching portfolio! I am an occupational therapist at the University Developmental Assessment Clinics (UDAC) in Salt Lake City. I received my Master's of Occupational Therapy (MOT) from the University of Utah in 2011 and completed my Post-Professional Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) in May 2017. I have a strong passion for working with children with special needs and their families. My capstone research project focused on the use of family-centered principles in the development of sensory diets for children with autism spectrum disorder.
In addition to my clinical practice, I teach as an adjunct instructor in the Division of
Occupational and Recreational Therapies as well as the Department of Pediatrics at
the University of Utah. Since 2014, I have co-taught the Pediatric Skills I (OC TH
6140) course and I enjoy teaching my future occupational therapy colleagues how to
develop client-centered, evidence-based interventions for pediatric clients and their
families. I find a lot of fulfillment in spending time with students in the MOT program as
they progress towards their goal of becoming an occupational therapy practitioner. In
order to further develop my teaching skills, I have pursued a Higher Education Teaching
Specialist certificate through the University of Utah's Center for Teaching and Learning
Excellence. I am continually learning about different pedagogical approaches and enjoy
incorporating new methods, learning activities, and technologies into the courses I teach.
I also serve as the Occupational Therapy faculty member in the Utah Regional Leadership
Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (URLEND) program. This has afforded me the opportunity to teach seminars about evidence-based practice as well as mentor interdisciplinary groups of graduate students and professionals as they complete a year- long leadership project related to children and youth with special health care needs.
When I am not seeing clients or teaching students, I enjoy spending time with my husband
and our two beagles. We like going on walks around our Liberty Park neighborhood and enjoy the Salt Lake City food scene.
